The United States Consulate in Matamoros, Mexico is America's oldest continuously active consular post. One of nine U.S. Consulates in Mexico, it serves a consular district comprised of the state of Tamaulipas, with the exception of a small portion northwest of the Rio Salado ( U.S. Consulate Nuevo Laredo's district ) and the municipalities of Tampico, Cd. Madero, and Altamira ( which are in U.S. Embassy Mexico district ).
A busy post with significant homeland security responsibilities, the Consulate's main functions are American Citizen Services, non-immigrant visa adjudication, logistical services and diplomatic representation.
